An Ultra Hard Alloy tippet material that combines phenomenal abrasion resistance with stiffness to make it the perfect tough saltwater tippet material. Ideal for casting the largest of flies and for casting in the toughest of winds. Easiest of all hard tippet materials to knot.
I first used RIO's Alloy Hard tippet in the Bahamas this past March and really like it for Bonefish, Permit, and other various species. I tie all my own leaders and even did up some Barracuda leaders with RIO's knotable wire on the end and found the two materials work well together. I typically replace my mono once a year and since I only did 1 saltwater trip I didn't want to waste all these spools, so I put them to work on some Steelhead. I really like how much stiffer and harder the new stuff is versus the old hard mono. It's great for but sections and really aids in the turnover of flies especially weighted ones. I've now had bonefish run me through mangroves and steelhead thrash on river bottoms and the abrasion resistance of this stuff is great. Anyone headed Steelhead or saltwater fishing should give it a try.
